Class of 2012 on TPS Part 1

While a lot of mainstream media has recently turned its attention to the NHL draft, The Pipeline Show has never taken its eye off the big event. Over the course of our 12-month broadcast calendar, we introduce we're talking about in some way or another on pretty much every show.

Whether we are introducing listeners to a player eligible for the draft, talking to Ross MacLean in the bi-weekly ISS Draft Countdown, speaking with a coach or a GM... the draft is always on our mind.

Starting today, I'll post links to key interviews that we have done which focus on the 2012 NHL Draft as a summary of the year that was on TPS.

We kicked things off for our coverage of the 2012 draft way back July 30, 2011 when we previewed the Ivan Hlinka camp for Canada with Ross MacLean. The Ivan Hlinka is the official start to the season for scouts so we've made that the start of our season as well.

Our first specific player interview for 2012 was with Everett defenceman Ryan Murray on August 2nd,2011. That same day, we reviewed Canada's U18 camp with Rick Jackson, Alberta area scout from NHL Central Scouting.

Canada's summer U20 camp happened to be in our back yard last August and we spoke with most of the players involved. That included Cody Ceci of the Ottawa 67's.

On August 13th we chatted with Sarnia Sting head coach Jacques Beaulieu. He gave us his thoughts on Nail Yakupov, Alex Galchenyuk and the rest of his team.

Then we spoke with Halifax Mooseheads GM Cam Russell about Martin Frk and some guys not eligible until 2013 like Nathan MacKinnon.

TSN Analyst Craig Button was a guest on August 16th and we recapped the Ivan Hlinka tournament. Craig gave us a run down on several players eligible for the 2012 Draft.

NHL Hall of Fame goaltender and owner of the Quebec Remparts, Patrick Roy, was a guest in early September. We took the opportunity to talk about a lot of things including Mikhail Grigorenko.

Dubuque Fighting Saints defenceman Michael Matheson joined us in September and after impressing us on that appearance, we asked him if he'd be interested in blogging with us during his draft year. it was shortly after that that his series of blogs began.

Peter Quenneville of the Sherwood Park Crusaders was profiled during Inside the AJHL with Taylor Medak. The forward would go on to be named the AJHL's MVP.

Another defenceman was in our spotlight when Portland's Derrick Pouliot appeared on September 17th. The following week it was Dillon Fournier of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies from the QMJHL discussing the draft and the move from Lewiston.

Hockey Canada's head junior scout, Kevin Prendergast, discussed the U18 and U20 teams with us on September 20th.

Anchoring the month of September was US-NTDP blueliner Jacob Trouba.

Come back for more links and summaries from The Pipeline Show draft year in review.
