Tuesday Night Recap

~
Tonight on TPS we doubled dipped our 2011 draft segment, went across the CHL and tried to get to the bottom of the Rick Comley fan incident that took place in Alaska over the weekend.

In our opening segment Guy and I discussed why it would OK for the Oilers to draft a small skilled forward like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as well as a young D-man who's looking to fast track his way into the OHL and which team has the better shot of making the post season...Seattle or Regina in the WHL.

Our first guest was Paula Weston of USCHO.com. We tried to figure out what really happened after a MSU-Alaska playoff game over the weekend. We broke the story on our Saturday morning show that Spartans head coach Rick Comley was involved in an altercation with a fan. Comley is leaving the Spartans after this year so we speculated on who might get the gig and had Paula give us an upset prediction for the next round of the CCHA post season.

The first of two 2011 draft prospects joined us next as we welcomed Marcel Noebels to the program. The German forward plays in Seattle and while he was passed over in last year's draft, a 25 goal campaign so far has scouts taking notice. Noebels has lit up Everett this year with 10 goals (4 in one game) and 4 assists in 10 games against the Silvertips.

We stayed with the draft theme as Dillon Simpson was up next for us. He's a freshman with the UND Fighting Sioux and a former Spruce Grove Saint. Dillon told us about the adjustments he's had to make at the next level, especially since he just turned 18 last month. He accelerated his high school to get to UND early and as the season has gone on he's played a larger roll with the #1 team in the country.

Our final two segments featured our CHL insider Sam Cosentino of Rogers Sportsnet. We went from league to league discussing topics like Sean Couturier's draft status to Windsor Spitfires head coach Bob Jones being involved in a late night scuffle in the Soo to the red hot Chilliwack Bruins of the WHL. Sportsnet has two more games this weekend with Owen Sound taking on Kitchener Friday night and Red Deer battling Calgary on Sunday. It'll mark the second straight week that a possible first overall pick will play on national TV.
