Saturday Morning Special - March 5

~
Saturday's guest list was a bit of a moving target as one intended participant had to drop out and another forgot he was getting on a plane before his segment. But being the professionals we are, we improvised and pulled out another solid show. We covered the CHL and NCAA action from Friday night, talked about the Taylor Hall fight/injury and how that might impact the Calder Trophy race, went East to look closer at the Quebec Remparts, covered some NCAA stuff and looked ahead to the World U18s for Canada.

As always, Saturday's first segment saw us going through Friday night's CHL and NCAA news and notes. Some interesting stuff happening across Canada's Major Junior landscape and in the opening round of the NCAA Conference playoffs (CCHA and ECAC).

Daren Millard joined us just before boarding a flight to Afghanistan. We talked about Taylor Hall's fight and subsequent injury and also who might take the rookie's place n the Calder Trophy race. Also, which goalie does Daren think has been most impressive in his first NHL campaign?

In segment 3 we brought in Kevin Prendergast, the head scout for Hockey Canada's U17, U18 and U20 programs. We talked about the process he's in right now as he waits to see which players will become available for Canada at the U18s in April. Several players were discussed including Reece Scarlett, Mark McNeil and Griffin Reinhart.

I spoke with Griffin Reinhart on Friday between periods at the Oil Kings/Tigers game. The big defenceman was in town to get his cast off and he gave us an update on when he thinks he might be able to get back on the ice with the club.

In segment 5 we welcomed Ray Cloutier to the show for the first time. He's the voice of Patrick's Roy's Quebec Remparts and he gave us a great in-depth picture of what that club has as the QMJHL playoffs draw nearer.

Finally, Nate Ewell of College Hockey Inc. talked to us about upcoming NCAA events and we asked his thoughts on the breaking news in Alaska involving MSU head coach Rick Comley.

I said Linden Vey because he is 38 points ahead of the second leading scorer on the team.
I considered Kuemper, but let it be because Red Deer is a pretty defensive team.
But i guess its not an easy choice as i said. He is definitely blowing away the goalie compeition!

Thanks for acknowledging the Oilogosphere thing. I did not expect it!
