Oilers Sign Olivier Roy [Updated]

~
News earlier today from the Oilers (via Oklahoma City) that Acadie-Bathurst netminder Olivier Roy has signed a 3-year entry level contract with Edmonton. The news hit Twitter earlier in the day when Barons beat writer Ryan Aber first reported it.

Roy was drafted in the 5th round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and needed to be signed unless the club was OK with his rights being returned to the pool for the 2011 Draft.

The 19-year-old has had an extremely hot and cold season highlighted by earning a spot on Canada's World Junior team but countered by his poor performance in the tournament and monumental collapse (so far) in the QMJHL playoffs. The 6th seeded Titans trail the 11th seeded Victoriaville Tigres 3-0 in their best-of-7 series and Roy hasn't finished any of the three games he's started. He currently has a 6.88 GAA and a .739 SV% after allowing 12 goals on just 46 shots.

Here is the official release from the Oilers which was issued a shirt time ago.

UPDATE: Roy did not dress in Game 4 of Acadie-Bathurst's series tonight and the Titan lost 4-3 to Victoriaville. His QMJHL season has come to an end and so Roy is now free to join Oklahoma City or Stockton.
