Is Brian Maxwell Coming Back To the WHL?

~
The man who guided the Spokane Chiefs to the 1991 Memorial Cup could be returning to the WHL. Sources have told TPS that Bryan Maxwell has met with the Vancouver Giants about a "hockey job" meaning he could be returning to a bench soon.

"He would make a very good assistant...especially if Hockey Canada comes calling on Don Hay again..." is what I was told. Maxwell's coaching record includes 5 years with the Chiefs where he never won fewer than 28 games and 6 seasons as the bench boss with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He also coached a couple of seasons in the ECHL with the Victoria Salmon Kings.

It was while with Lethbridge that Maxwell allegedly punched a Referee during a 1996 playoff game. He was actually charged with assault but found not guilty by the courts. That was not the case with the WHL though and Maxwell was suspended for the entire 1996-1997 season and wasn't allowed to attend any Lethbridge Games. he did however remain with the team until 2003. In 2001 he was suspended by the league for getting into an altercation with then Calgary Hitmen head coach Richard Kromm.

Members of the Memorial Cup champion team from Spokane in '91 included Ray Whitney and Pat Falloon as well as netminder Trevor Kidd.
