Edmontonian a Hobey Baker Finalist

~
Former Fort Saskatchewan Trader Matt Frattin has officially bounced back from some tough times. Today Frattin, a North Dakota Fighting Sioux forward was named one of the 3 finalists for the Hobey Baker award, given out to the NCAA's most outstanding player.

Frattin led the nation in goals with 36 and sat second in points with 60 and was the WCHA player of the year. Pretty good for a guy who almost saw his NCAA hockey career go down the drain due to off ice issues. In July of 2009 Frattin and teammate Joe Finley were found arrested after destroying furniture and Frattin fled Police while Finley gave a false name. Later that summer Frattin was charged with drinking and driving. He was then kicked off the team, but later rejoined the club and was acquitted by a jury. Since then Frattin, as some of his teammates have told us has been a model player on and off the ice and took his game to a new level.

The Edmonton product was an AJHL rookie of the year when he put up 83 points in 58 games. He was a 2007 4th round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs and in his senior season this year he more then tripled his goal production from last season.

Joining Frattin in the Hobey hattrick is Andy Miele a senior with Miami who led the nation in points with 71, and Boston College forward Cam Atkinson who put up 31 goals this season. Atkinson recently signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets, forgoing his senior season.
