WHL trade...our crystal ball was right for once

*
If you were listening Tuesday night you might have heard Guy and I talking about a possible trade taking place in the WHL. It wasn't a major block buster but an interesting one.

In a conversation I had with someone based in the Eastern Conference I had learned that defenceman Cody Carlson had requested a trade from the Regina Pats. Was this a bad apple? Not from the info I gathered, just a player who wasn't on the same page with what the team wanted from him I was told. The Pats wanted more toughness from him, and Carlson saw himself contributing in a more offensive role, although the Regina assistant captain was known to take a few to many chances from one source. I was told he was likely on his way to the Western Conference and that the Pats had their eye on another dman that they were trying to work a deal out for. The Pats are off to a tough start losing 7-3 against Edmonton Saturday night, as well as their top tender Damien Ketlo to a 2nd period scrap with Cam Lanigan. Ketlo has shoulder issues and is out for a while.

Today the Pats announced a deal, that gave Carlson his wish, sending him to the Prince George Cougars in exchange for 19 year old blueliner Art Bidlevskii. The Pats release can be found here, while the Cougars is here.

Still with PG, they doubled up Kootenay 6-3 Wednesday night, and new forward Taylor Stefishen scored once, added an assist and was plus one in his first Cougar game after arriving via Ohio State University.

Meanwhile Regina blew a 5-2 lead against Red Deer Tuesday night, and the Ryan Nugent Hopkins led rebels won 6-5 in overtime. RNH picked up 3 points and is now tied for the league scoring with 13 points in 7 games. The Pats have now given up 30 goals in 6 games while scoring just 19.
