Team Canada Roster Set

~

Hockey Canada has announced the final 22-man roster that will represent the country at the 2010 World Junior Championship. A number of talented players did not make the final cut and were released from the team earlier today and there were a couple of surprises.

Here is the release from Hockey Canada.

More reaction from The Pipeline Show later today but for now...

- I am surprised that Matt Hackett did not make the team. Dean and I both pondered the possibility of him overtaking Jake Allen during the tournament much like Steve Mason did to Jonathon Bernier a couple of years ago.

- Really surprised about Cody Eakin. Personally, I thought he might be the guy that begins with a small role and then works his way into a key contributor by the end of the tournament. Really would have liked to see him alongside Brayden Schenn and Jordan Eberle.

- I am not shocked that Louis Leblanc didn't make it - with only 8 games played this year with Harvard, he'd really behind the rest of the field of players at the camp in regards to game experience this year.

- Dylan Olsen was on the bubble but would not have been really surprised to see him make the team either. It could have went either way and just didn't go his way today.

- It's the first time since 2005 that Canada's final roster is comprised completely of CHL players and that was a special year because of the NHL lockout. You have to go back all the way to 1997 to find the next Canadian entry that was devoid of NCAA content.

More later...
